The Woodlands Inn is back under its previous ownership.

Sheila Johnson, founder of BET and owner of Salamander Hospitality, which acquired Woodlands in 2006, sold the Inn to Johnny Linton, a Summerville native and attorney with Duffy and Young LLC in Charleston, and the Linton family in 2010. Under the agreement, Salamander managed the property and kept an interest in it.

Linton said he and his family got out of the business officially in December.

“Before Christmas the property was transferred back to Salamander,” Linton said. “It just seemed like a better fit for Salamander than for us.”

Linton said the family’s foray into the hospitality business was interesting and challenging. He also said he has gone back to practicing law full time.

“On December 22, 2011, Summerville Inns of Grandeur, LLC, the owner of Woodlands Inn since September 2010, turned over the resort to its lender via a Deed in Lieu of Foreclosure,” according to a statement released by Salamander Hotels and Resorts. “Salamander Woodlands, LLC, an affiliate of Salamander Hotels and Resorts, provided seller financing to Summerville Inns of Grandeur, LLC, when it purchased the Woodlands in 2010. Woodlands has been managed by Salamander Hotels and Resorts under third-party agreements since 2006 and will continue to be so moving forward.”

According to the statement, Woodlands Inn continues normal operations, including accepting new reservations. All existing reservations and bookings are being honored and there has been no impact on the guest and dining experience.

Under Salamander’s management, Woodlands has achieved six successive years of AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star ratings for both its accommodations and dining, delivering the finest luxury experience in the region.

Salamander Hospitality owns several high-end resort properties, including the Woodlands, Grand Resorts at Cap Cana in the Caribbean, and Grand Golf Resorts of Florida.
