Recognizing that our community needs Trident United Way and the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America working together to improve lives, the two organizations have reached an amicable agreement over their future relationship.

Representatives of the two organizations spent three-and-a-half hours in meetings today, hosted by Comcast, whose general manager, Bill Watson, serves on the board of directors of both agencies.

TUW and the Boy Scouts have a 65-year history of partnership. TUW acknowledges the important work that the Boy Scouts do instilling positive values in boys and young men. The Boy Scouts acknowledge the importance of Trident United Way’s commitment to program outcomes.

“All of us in the room recognized that the events of the past week damage not just two great community organizations but the shared work of building a stronger community,” said Lonnie Carter, president and CEO of Santee Cooper and Board Chair of Trident United Way and a Boy Scout donor.

A joint statement is attached.:

Coastal Carolina Council Boy Scouts of America and Trident United Way are two fine organizations focused on meeting the needs of our community. Both organizations are committed to strong stewardship. For decades the two organizations have worked to solve the problems faced by individuals and families in our community.

This week a team of volunteers and staff from both organizations met to better understand each others’ decision-making process and fiscal accountability to move forward working together to meet the needs of the youth in our community.

Both organizations hold dearly the traditional faith and values of our community and are committed to supporting further those concepts.

Sincerely,

Chris Kerrigan
