Suspect unwittingly schedules appointment with police

One of two suspects who fled a Trolley Road restaurant after failing to pay a $48 liquor tab was identified by the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services paperwork found in the vest he left at the scene, a Summerville police report shows.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Ladson man, allegedly fled the restaurant Sunday night, along with a second unidentified male, in a tan Chevrolet Cavalier, the report shows.

According to the report, the paperwork indicated that the suspect had an appointment with the DPPPS the next morning.

Suspect rather vocal during arrest

After initiating a traffic stop on March 14 at Shady Grove Community Park in St. George, Dorchester County sheriff's deputies arrested a man who didn't exercise his right to remain silent, a report shows.

The suspect reportedly became belligerent when a deputy confronted him for walking in front of his cruiser, almost causing the deputy to hit him. According to the report, after the suspect attempted to leave by driving off without a license and the deputies called him on it, the man replied, "Lock me up. I have plenty of money. I will get out."

Deputies went to speak with the suspect and they picked up a brown paper bag off the ground containing what was believed to be crack cocaine that was located approximately four feet in front of the suspect, the report states.

A search of the suspect's vehicle revealed a Crown Royal bag containing a razor blade and substances believed to be marijuana and powder cocaine, the report shows.

According to the report, when the deputy turned to the suspect with the purple bag in hand, the suspect said, "Yes, I smoke weed, crack and snort coke. Go ahead. Lock me up."

The deputies did just that. They transported the suspect to the county jail where he was booked on possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia (for the razor blade), possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and possession of powder cocaine, the report states.

Public intoxication

Summerville police received a call Sunday night from a concerned citizen regarding a highly intoxicated male outside a gas station near downtown, a report shows.

While en route to the gas station, the responding officer saw a man walking down Hwy. 78 toward Main Street. The man was "staggering with his hands out to his side, trying to keep his balance," the officer noted.

With a strong odor of what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage emanating from his body, the man staggered to the officer's patrol car and almost fell over into a ditch, according to the report.

The man, who said he was walking home to his apartment, started to raise his voice to the responding officers and other officers on the scene, even using profane language, the report shows. He was arrested for public intoxication and transported to jail.

While the officer was transporting the man to jail, dispatch advised that he had an active bench warrant for failure to appear in court as ordered on a charge of simple possession of marijuana, the report states.

The man was issued a uniform traffic ticket for public intoxication and was served with the bench warrant, according to the report.
