Duct meat

On Monday, Summerville police arrested a Goose Creek man accused of stealing a $90 whole ribeye steak and a roll of duct tape he planned to use to attach the meat to his body, a report shows.

When police arrived at the scene, a grocery store, the man was sitting on the sidewalk with meat lying next to him, the report says.

The store manager said he saw the man place the meat in his pants and depart the store.

The alleged meat thief was charged with shoplifting and later transported to jail to await a bond hearing, the report says.

Reaction to one herb leads to arrest for another

A 51-year-old Summerville man was arrested on drug charges Sunday after his paranoid reaction to some “Mexican herbal stuff” brought police and EMS to his apartment, a report shows.

Police and EMS first arrived after the man reportedly jumped from a second-floor balcony because he smoked the Mexican herb — known as Salvia divinorum — and felt as if something was chasing him, the report says.

The man was about to climb back up to his apartment when a Summerville police officer intervened. The man let police into his apartment where the reporting officer noted the order of burnt marijuana, the report says.

The officer asked the man if he had smoked anything other than the Mexican herb and he said he hadn’t, the report says.

After shining his light toward the bathroom, the officer observed a partially smoked blunt — a hollowed-out cigar filled with marijuana — on an incense tray, the report says. He asked the man about it.

“Oh that is a blunt, but that isn’t from today,” the man replied. “That’s from yesterday.”

The man also showed the officer two water pipes, one of which he said he used to smoke the Salvia, the report says.

The officer asked him if it was a bong. The man said, “ya, I smoke a little marijuana,” the report says.

During a search of the apartment, to which the man consented, the officer found a hand-rolled marijuana cigarette and a two bags containing a combined 47 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, the report shows.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, the report says.

A resident of Corey Woods found a loaded handgun while mowing his lawn last week, a Summerville police report shows.

The resident said he was cutting the grass in his front yard and the mower blade stopped. He said he looked down and saw what appeared to be a handgun. He didn’t handle it and he immediately called police, the report says.

The responding officer pulled the rusted handgun — a Browning 9mm — from the grass and removed the loaded magazine and the round still in the chamber, the report says.

The resident said it was the first time since last August that he had mowed the lawn, the report says.

A check of the gun’s serial number came back clear, the report says. It was placed into evidence for safekeeping.

Deputies discover likely marijuana plant

A pair of Dorchester County sheriff’s deputies who were tracking a wanted suspect April 14 found a 2-foot tall plant they believed to be marijuana, a report shows.

After tracking the suspect, one of the deputies returned to retrieve the plant, which was growing in a large mound of dirt near a three-story building, the report says.

The plant tested presumptive for marijuana and was taken into evidence to be tested and destroyed, the report says.
