Too much information…
A passing motorist hailed an off-duty officer who was performing crossing guard duties at Newington Elementary School. The passer-by told the officer a man was lying on the ground and not moving near King Charles Circle near Smythe Drive.
The officer found the man lying on his back near the sidewalk, approached him, and asked him if he was okay. The subject sat up, glassy eyed and unsteady, and told the officer he was fine, but he had been drinking.
While the officer was running the subject’s identification, the subject was swaying so much he seemed to be in danger of falling down so the officer told him to sit back down.
The subject then began making random statements about moving to Las Vegas, requesting that the officer call his parents, and telling him, “You make $33,000,” then repeated that he had been drinking, even though the officer did not ask.
Because the man was so obviously intoxicated, the officer arrested him for public intoxication and took him to the police department. However, on the way over, the subject became combative, so he was immediately transported to the detention center.
Beware bearing gifts…
A Bacons Bridge Road woman called police after receiving a mysterious package from a man she said she met on an Internet dating site. The man had led her to believe he was a wealthy widower looking for companionship and had started sending her expensive gifts around Christmas.
He then told her he was traveling abroad and called her at one point to ask her to wire him some money because he had lost his wallet while traveling in South Africa. She said she became concerned at this time and expressed her concerns to the man. The man became upset, she said, but then tried to “sweet talk” her. He then asked her if he could have some packages sent to her house because he could not receive them where he was. She agreed to do so.
Several packages arrived at her house and she noticed that while they were addressed to the man, the billing addresses were to two other individuals. She then decided to call the police, who came and took the merchandise and paperwork into evidence.
She said she had always communicated with the man via Yahoo messenger, but he had also called her a couple of times with an international number appearing on her caller ID.
Officers advised her to have no more contact with him and to call them if more packages arrived.
Forgery

The complainant said she hade been added to the woman’s account because she had been taking care of the woman until she died in December; the complainant had used the account to pay the woman’s funeral expenses. However, she does not know who might have obtained checks from the account.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance tapes at the bank to see if they can identify a suspect. Whoever withdrew the money used the dead woman’s driver’s license as identification. The case is under investigation.
