Vandalism
The Summerville Police has been working on a rash of car vandalism over the past two weekends. Twenty-two incidents this past weekend and nine incidents last weekend were reported of vandalism to motor vehicles. The incidents occurred late at night or early morning in a number of neighborhoods, including Arbor Oaks, Corey Woods, Newington, Pine Forest, and Quail Arbor. In each incident, windows, usually back windshields, were smashed, possibly shot with a BB gun. However, nothing seemed top be missing from the vehicles. The cases are under investigation.
Close call…
They’re at it again – people trying to commit identity fraud in another phone scam.
A 75-year-old Ladson woman reported that someone called her one morning claiming to be her grandson. He said he was in Canada at the Olympics and had been arrested for driving under the influence after having a car accident. He said he needed her to wire him $2,000 so he could have the fine wiped from his record and be released from jail.
The woman said she would take care of it, but then became suspicious; the caller never identified himself, only called her grandma. She decided to wait.
Sure enough, early that same afternoon, someone else called claiming to be a public defender asking where the money was. She hung up with that caller and called her grandson, who as it turns out was at work in Virginia and had not been in Canada at all.
Stolen grill
A Summerville man reported that a female friend of his girlfriend’s had been in their house and had stolen a number of items from him, including a gold nugget ring, diamond ring, and gold teeth. He said the suspect stole them from the bathroom, where he kept the items, and had put them in her purse. He further stated that he had not reported it because he assumed he would never see his property again, however, he found one of his rings at the Fast Money Pawn Shop in Summerville. The case is under investigation.
Tampered tires
A Summerville woman reported that she was driving her Jeep Wrangler and the tire on the driver’s front side fell off the vehicle. She also said that same morning she found a drop of dried blood at the bottom of her door when she awakened. She believes someone took the lug nuts off her tire and put the blood on the door.
Wrestling gone bad
A North Charleston woman reported that she was talking with another woman about old times when the other woman asked her if she wanted to wrestle. According to the victim, they went inside the subject’s house and began to playfully wrestle until the subject pinned the victim. Then the subject began to punch her in the face. When the victim asked why, the subject hit her again. The victim got the subject off her and they began to punch each other. Another subject asked why they were fighting and also punched her. She lost her footing and went to the ground and yet another female subject began to hit her.
The victim’s brother finally arrived and took her to her parents’ residence. The victim says she wishes to press charges on all the subjects.
