Clueless?

An officer responded to a call about a black SUV hitting another vehicle in a bank parking lot and leaving the scene. A few minutes later, the officer was sent to a second incident, also involving a black SUV hitting a light post and leaving the scene.

A witness told the officer the SUV had driven into the parking lot of an apartment complex on Mary Mead Road. The witness followed and watched the subject park the vehicle at the rear of the complex in front of the 500 building. She then asked the driver if he was okay; he replied he was, he had just had an accident and was going home. When she asked him if he knew he had just hit a light post, he said yes and walked away. She then asked him where he lived, he told her and she gave him a ride to his building because he was nowhere near his apartment and had no shoes.

The witness described the subject as a middle aged white male, heavy set, partially bald, wearing a striped shirt.

Officers went to the apartment and knocked on the door and a white male matching the description answered. They asked him if he owned a black SUV; he told them he did. The asked for a driver’s license and he gave them one issued from the state of Michigan. They then asked him if he had just been driving the vehicle; he said he had. They asked him where it was and he told them, “Right there” and pointed toward the parking lot.

They asked him if he was aware he had been in two accidents and he said yes and had left because he didn’t think he’d damaged anything. They then arrested him on two counts of leaving the scene of an accident and operating an uninsured motor vehicle and transported him to Dorchester County Detention Center.

Stolen air conditioner

A North Charleston man reported that someone stole an air conditioning unit from a rental property on Weatherbark Circle he owns. He said the residence is currently unoccupied and the last time he saw the unit was on July 26.

The man further stated he could not provide any evidence of suspicious activity, but he had recently made a couple that was renting move out of the residence not too long ago.

The value of the air conditioning unit, he said, is about $5,000.

Stylin’ burglars

Two Ladson men reported they had left their residence for a little while and when they returned they found someone had kicked in the front door and stolen several items, including a 42 inch flat screen television, a Music Man bass guitar, a Yamaha keyboard, a gun, a computer, jewelry, and five pairs of orange and white shoes. They said they believe their neighbors might know who did it.

Investigators interviewed the neighbors, who said an unknown subject had come to the door earlier asking about the victims’ whereabouts.

The case is under investigation.
