Armed robberies
A Summerville man reported that he was walking through the playground area of Planters Retreat in Summerville when he was approached by two unknown black males who told him to hand over everything in his pockets. The subjects were described as 15-19 years old, wearing dark shorts and white shirts.
The victim said that one of the subjects told the other to “show him the gun,” but the other did not. However, the victim said he was sure they did have a gun and he handed over his cell phone and $34 cash he had on him.
The officer asked the victim why he was in the apartment complex in the first place; the victim had no answer other than he was on his way home.
In a separate incident, a dry cleaner on North Main reported that an unknown black male wearing a green and white shirt and jeans entered the store the evening of Aug. 12 and handed the clerk a handwritten note which said “I have a gun and not afraid to use it, give me your money.” The clerk laid the note on the counter and the man took it back. She looked to see if he had a weapon and he placed his hand near a bulge at his waist. She handed him an undetermined amount of cash and he fled the business in the direction of a nearby Circle K store.
The clerk said the man never said a word the entire time and she has never seen him before. The doors to the business were open because of the heat, so he didn’t touch anything coming in.
The case is under investigation.
Happy birthday…
A Summerville woman reported that while she was visiting her brother at his apartment, a man who had been a guest there threw water on her and pushed her out the door. The officer noted that the woman’s shirt was wet. The subject said he had accidentally thrown water on her when she had tried to kick him in the crotch.
The brother then advised that he wanted to place the man on trespass notice, which the officer served. Both the victim and her brother declined prosecution.
Scam
A Summerville woman reported that her son’s ex-girlfriend used a forged power of attorney to drain her son’s bank account of $2,500. The son, who is currently serving a two-year-prison sentence at the Leeds Avenue Correctional Institution, was incarcerated in February.
The complainant said she had gone to the bank to check on her son’s finances but was told she could not have information because the girlfriend had power of attorney. However, when they asked the son if this were true, he told them he had never signed a power of attorney to his ex-girlfriend.
