Wire fraud

A Summerville woman reported that she was shopping on Craigslist for a vehicle and found one she liked, a Lincoln Navigator SUV, for $2,400. The woman contacted the seller through the website and agreed to pay the amount listed. The seller advised the complainant to use something called “Google Check Out” to find a third party to hold the money until both parties were satisfied with the transaction.

The complainant found a third party on the Google Check Out link the seller sent her. The complainant wired $2,400 to that person, who said he would hold the money until the transaction was final – if she were not satisfied with the car he would send her money back. She then contacted the seller who told her a delivery company would contact her with a time and date they would deliver the vehicle.

When the complainant never heard from anyone about the vehicle, she began to get suspicious. The seller and the third party refused to answer calls or emails. She then went to the Google Check Out website and found that it was a duplicate to a legitimate site.

Western Union advised the complainant to report the situation to law enforcement.

Creep alert

A Charleston man keeps showing up at a Waffle House restaurant on Dorchester Road and makes unwanted sexual advances toward the female employees. Recently, deputies responded to a call at the restaurant where they found the subject and had him initial a no trespass notice and warned him that he is not to come back on the property.

If at first you don’t succeed…

A Summerville woman reported that an unknown black male subject entered a Laundromat where she works, walked behind the counter, and brandished a knife and demanded money. She told him she did not have any money and he demanded her laptop computer. At first she told him no, then she told him to just take it and leave. He demanded that she give it to him and again she said, no, jut take it and get out of the business.

At this point, the subject took the computer, and as he was leaving, turned and asked her for five dollars so he could buy a blunt.

The woman said she does not know the subject but could probably identify him.

Other witnesses in the area indicated that the subject might very well be an individual who lives in a nearby apartment complex and is wanted by the police.

The case is under investigation.
