Honor your Mother by running or walking in the second annual Hazel Williams Gammons Run for your Mother event to be held May 10, the Saturday before Mother’s Day at 9 a.m.
Hazel Williams Gammons (1937 – 2002) was an extraordinary person and single mother who raised four children with the help of their grandmother, Rosalee Grant WIlliams. Summerville was her home. She went to Alston High School and later worked for 30 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Charleston. She also died too soon from a stroke. She was only 64 years old.
Her four children – Debra, Evelyn, Beverly, and Fredrick—present his Run to honor her memory and to benefit the National Stroke Association.
“I started this Run because I am a runner and I wanted to do something in memory of my Mom,” says her daughter, Debra Gammons. “Exercise is the key to a long and healthy life and this Run/Walk brings recognition to the importance of exercise and the work of the National Stroke Association.”
Help reduce your chance of stroke by exercising. Help lessen the incidence and impact of strokes nationwide by running or walking for your Mother. You know she would want you to.
For registration and route information, visit www.runforyourmother.com. The run will begin on South 2nd Street in Summerville.
Last year 83 people participated in the event and more are expected this year. Schools are also encouraged to participate. Debra says they will run or walk, rain or shine.
