Faith Shannon, 9, of Douglasville, Ga. landed her first speaking role in an upcoming 2009 Sundance Festival, Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award, winner “Purple Heart.”
The 88-minute movie is scheduled for release in New York and Los Angeles on Aug. 14 and will be released in other major cities later in August.
Faith’s parents, Tony and Shujuan Shannon, began submitting Faith’s photo to national scouts at the age of 19 months. Since then she has visited Hollywood, Calif. for auditions and is now signed with agent Eva Stancil, owner of Atlanta agency Kiddin’ Around Models and Talent.
Faith’s other appearances include a featured extra in “Randy and the Mob” which was filmed in Villa Rica, Ga. and starred Ray McKennon; a local Atlanta music video by Will Preston. Paper Heart was directed by Nick Jasenovec and written by Jasenovec and Charlyne Yi.
The film stars Yi, Michael Cera and Jake Johnson and was produced by Sandra Murillo and Elise Salomon. Jasenovec were Yi executive producers. Faith is the granddaughter of Gene and Juanita Hill of Ridgeville and daughter of Shujuan Hill Shannon, a 1982 graduate of Summerville High School and a 1986 graduate of S.C. State University in Orangeburg. “Little Faith” is also the great-granddaughter of Hattie and “Dick” Hill, of Ridgeville.
