Jim Way says, “Come visit with us awhile,” as he invites visitors to the Koger House near Grover in upper Dorchester County.

The recently restored two hundred and fifteen year aged “Koger House” is a living testament to the skills of craftsmen during the late seventeen hundreds. Built beside the Charleston to Augusta road it provided overnight accommodations for weary stagecoach passengers.

It was first a home for Joseph Koger II, then later for Soule Murray and even later to James Carroll. These were three men who served in the South Carolina Assembly prior to the Civil War.

Meticulously restored by the Upper Dorchester County Historical Society, it will be open to the pubic on November 20 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. Admission is free and the experience is priceless. Any donations to help support and preserve will be sincerely appreciated.

This Federal Style home displays the period methods of construction popular at the time. Inside can be seen many timely pieces of furniture and household items and accommodations. And, don’t overlook the blood stained floor on the second level. Also on display will be many not seen before items and antiques donated by friends of the Society. Also included are many artifacts salvaged from sands beneath the house and surrounding soils.

The Koger House is located on highway SC 19 (Wire Road) adjacent to the I-95 Overpass near Grover SC.
