The Cay is the story of journey taken by a young Dutch-American boy and an elderly Caribbean native.

After the hustle and bustle of the Holidays, the Flowertown Players at the Historic James F. Dean community theatre are putting forth their next production of the season.

Some may recognize The Cay as a book they, or their children, had to read as a requirement for school, but FTP can assure that watching the live staged version of the show will be a absolute thrill in comparison to mandatory reading.

The Cay takes place as World War II wages on, and German U-boats are marauding the Caribbean, sinking transport and supply ship alike. Young Dutch- American Phillip, and elderly native Caribbean Timothy wash up on a deserted cay, after a German U-boat attacks their passenger ship heading from the Dutch Island of Curacao to the American Shoreline.

Phillip is blinded in the attack, and poor old Timothy suffers from Malaria so the two must work past racial differences and depend on each other strengths to survive.

The production will show Jan. 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. as well as Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. For tickets to this fantastic drama, visit the FTP theatre at 133 South Main Street Summerville, call the Box Office at 875-9251, or visit www.flowertownplayers.org.
