Patty Ross and Kathi Santanella have a couple of things in common. They both work at American Home Patients, they both were out at last Third Thursday’s activities and now they have both won Puzzle Palooza.
Kathi was last year’s winner and this year she brought a bunch of friends along to play Puzzle Palooza. Patty Ross was one of the office mates that came along and completed her puzzle on Saturday by visiting some final shops. On Monday her husband, Michael turned in her completed puzzle and on Wednesday he fielded the call that came to inform them of Patty’s good fortune of winning $1,000 in DREAM gift certificates.
On Jan. 26 she and her husband arrived at the Summerville D.R.E.A.M. office to collect her gift certificates and meet the staff of Summerville D.R.E.A.M.
Puzzle Palooza was designed to motivate residents and area visitors to get to know all the wonderful businesses in our Historic Downtown area. Starting at 10 a.m. on the Third Thursday, Jan. 19, interested players could pick up a game board and puzzle pieces at any participating downtown merchant. Then each player was required to go to all the 34 participating businesses to pick up the various puzzle pieces. Stores were open late until 8 p.m. on that Third Thursday to accommodate the players and collection was available on Friday and Saturday until close of business.
Players had to put the puzzle pieces in the correct order to reveal the picture that was a montage of two views of Downtown Summerville — one from the early 20th century provided by the Summerville Dorchester Museum and a current photo taken by Dottie Rizzo of Azalea Magazine.
Puzzle players had to turn the completed puzzle into the box in the lobby of the First Citizens Bank at 218 S. Main Street by 5 p.m. on Jan. 23. All of the 49 correct entries were put into a drawing for the grand prize of $1,000 in DREAM gift certificates.
Summerville D.R.E.A.M. heard great feedback from participants who enjoyed the game and discovered the downtown area businesses — many were pleasantly surprised to be introduced to new places to shop and dine.
When asked what she and her husband planned to do with her winnings, Patty replied that she had discovered many great new places to shop in Summerville and was looking forward to have that opportunity. Like Kathi Santanella, Patty and her husband Michael are involved in their church and will be looking to spend some gift certificates at the Community Christian Store to purchase materials for a class they will be teaching. First though, they were going to treat themselves to a celebratory meal in downtown.
“We are so pleased with the reception that this event received and the opportunity it gave for all the game participants to show off their businesses and we look forward to doing this again next year—maybe next year someone from a different office will win!” said Susan Morris, Executive Director of Summerville D.R.E.A.M. Many thanks go to the businesses that sponsored the grand prize for Puzzle Palooza. Those sponsor businesses were: Aura Lee’s Jewelry, Handbags & Accessories, B & E Automotive, Four Green Fields, James M. Lopez, CPA, Maggie Rose, Montreux Bar & Grill, Perfectly Frank’s, People, Place & Quilts, Sarah’s View, Southern Belle Epoque, and Sweetwater Café.
