"Carolina Girls . . . Lowcountry Style” was the theme of the Miss Charleston/Miss Summerville Scholarship Pageant on Feb. 6 at Charleston Southern University’s Lightsey Chapel Auditorium, where 16 young women competed for titles. Contestant categories were private interview, physical fitness, talent, evening gown and on-stage question.
Caitlin Hunt of Summerville was crowned Miss Summerville 2010. Hunt is a graduate of Fort Dorchester High School where she was a member of the show choir under the direction of Richard Davis for three years. She is a recipient of the Summerville Music Club scholarship and a member of Davis’ newly formed Main Street at Broadway show choir.
Hunt is a freshman at Charleston Southern University where she is majoring in Vocal Performance with a minor in English.
Hunt won the talent competition singing “The Girl in 14G,” a musical theatre combo of contemporary, jazz and opera. Caitlin is the daughter of David and Connie Hunt and has an older sister, Meghan.
Hunt’s personal platform is neuroblastomia Awareness. Call 708-4844 to schedule her to sing or to speak on neuroblastoma or the Children’s Miracle Network.?Also crowned at the event was Caitlen Patton of Summerville, Miss Summerville Teen 2010. She is a sophomore at Fort Dorchester High School and the daughter of Robert and Lesa Patton and has a younger sister Erica. She is a four-year member of the musical theater group The Charleston Youth Company. For talent, Patton sang “Popular” from the Broadway musical “Wicked.” Patton chose The Summerville Miracle League as her personal platform.
During intermission the audience was given the opportunity to donate money to their favorite contestant with the proceeds going to The Summerville Miracle League. Steve Hatton, representing the Miracle League, was given a $230 check and presented Patton with The People’s Choice Award.
Mary Grace Graham of Conway was crowned Miss Charleston 2010. Wendy Winn of Lancaster was crowned Miss Charleston Teen 2010.
The Miss Charleston/Miss Summerville Scholarship Pageant is an official preliminary to Miss South Carolina and Miss America. Winners from throughout the state will compete in Spartanburg on July 3 for the titles of Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen.
