Pinewood Preparatory School is thrilled to announce the third annual “Pickin’ in the Pines,” Bluegrass and barbeque festival. The event will consist of live music by Common Ground, a local bluegrass band, as well as HomeGrown, featuring two Pinewood students, and dinner catered by Momma Brown’s Barbeque. The event, presented by Pinewood and Palmetto Primary Care Physicians, will take place at the Field House on the school’s campus, from 6-9 p.m. on Fri., Nov. 16.
“We have enjoyed attending and participating in Bluegrass festivals for years, and thought it was time for Summerville to have its own festival,” said Robyn and Dana Schmieding, founders of Pickin’ in the Pines. “We are delighted that Pinewood Prep is host to this fun family event, right here in our own community.”
HomeGrown is a Summerville-based Bluegrass band with a lead trio that consists of two sisters and a friend who share a mutual love and respect for the musicality of their southern roots. Ali Clynes Schmieding, Aurie Engel Schmieding and Ashleigh Borden enjoy sharing gospel and country influences with their listeners. The Schmieding sisters have attended Pinewood for several years, and are excited to be a part of the Summerville event held at their school.
Common Ground, one of Charleston’s finest bluegrass bands, will also be performing at Pickin’ in the Pines. Musicians Tracy Jackson, Melvin Cumbee, Laura Macon, Bob Meehan, and Debbie Kimzey have been performing throughout the Lowcountry for years.
Palmetto Primary Care Physicians are the presenting sponsors for the event.
“As an organization, we are continually looking for ways to strengthen the communities and families we serve,” stated Ron Piccione, CEO of Palmetto Primary Care Physicians. “This particular event allows us to support one of the best schools in Summerville while having fun.”
Other major sponsors include Knight Companies and MeadWestVaco. The family-friendly event will include jump castles, corn hole games, line dancing, games and face painting. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for students, and children ages 3 and under are free. The ticket price includes one barbeque or hotdog meal. All proceeds benefit Pinewood’s music and technology program.
