Compton gives ‘locks of love’

Ashlee Compton gave up a part of her Saturday, to help someone else.

Not only does she love to play basketball for her school and softball for the local rec team, she also holds down an B average in her GATE classes at Oakbrook Middle School.

So it wasn’t much of a surprise to her parents, Bonny and Brian Compton, when Ashley said she wanted to grow her hair for Locks of Love, an organization that makes wigs for people who have lost their hair due to illness or injury.

“Ashlee is the type of child who prefers to give instead of receive,” says her mother Bonny Compton. “She loves to go shopping but yet when we tell her to buy what she wants she says no thank you, and then when she gets money for babysitting or even for her birthday she is more likely to give it to charity at school or donate it so a good cause.”

Her father, Brian Compton add that Ashlee is the kind of girl who always has to put a dollar or what ever she has on her when she sees someone collecting money at a store.

Ashlee told her mother when she was 11 years old she wanted to donate her hair to Locks of Love. For her thirteenth birthday that is exactly what she did. Ashlee plans to write a letter to send with her hair expressing her love.

“Ashlee continues to prove to us every day that she is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. We cannot be more proud of her,” her mom says.

On Saturday, the day of the great haircut, Annette at Shear Reflections in North Charleston did the deed.

“We truly think she is the best, she surprised us at the end, and told us there would be no charge,” Bonny says.
