For the third year, Fort Dorchester Elementary School will observe Steve Irwin Day, which is celebrated internationally every year. On Nov. 13, the school will honor Irwin’s passion for family, wildlife, the environment and the planet by hosting Roark Ferguson with Roark's Reptiles and Chad Barrett with Lowcountry Exotic Pets, each of who will bring an assortment of animals to educate and entertain students. Irwin was known for many things such as wearing khakis, saying "crikey" and his love for wildlife and all animals. He believed in teaching about wildlife and the environment through fun and excitement. This day is used to help children learn about the world around them and how they can take care of it. Wear your khakis Nov. 13 and let's have a day of learning with fun and excitement. The class with the highest percentage of khaki-wearers will get to "adopt" an animal from the Australia Zoo. A package will arrive with a picture of the adopted animal and interesting facts, as well as a signed photo of the Irwin family and an adoption certificate with the class’s name.
