The Summerville Oakbrook Breakfast Rotary Club distributed dictionaries to schools in the Oakbrook area in November. All third graders in the Oakbrook are received a dictionary funded by a grant from Rotary.
The Rotarians went out in groups of two to the schools deliver several hundred dictionaries at each location. At each school the members had a chance to tell students about Rotary programs to end polio around the world and our water missions programs to provide clean water to many communities where drought is a problem.
Students took the opportunity to ask questions about Rotary. One question was about the membership system that encourages membership from all walks of life. Dreyer told them that he was an architect and that we also have school principals, policemen, insurance agents and many others.
Dreyer and Friar then gave students a challenge to use the dictionaries to read for fun and for their work in school. The Rotarians asked them to aim high and to learn a new word every day.
