Palmetto Scholars Academy, South Carolina’s first Gifted and Talented Charter School, will hold a curriculum informational session featuring the school’s curriculum consultant, Dr. Shelagh Gallagher at 7 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Berkeley County Library, 2301 Daniel Island Drive, Daniel Island.

The event is free and open to the public and attendees will earn what the special needs of advanced learners are, why their needs are not met in the standard public school curriculum, what differences to expect at Palmetto Scholars Academy and how those differences will benefit your student in the long term.

Gallagher is a nationally recognized gifted and talented curriculum expert. A longtime member of the National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC), Gallagher has served on the Board of Directors and has twice won NAGC Curriculum Division awards. She has also served on the board of the North Carolina Association for the Gifted and Talented. She is widely published and conducts workshops nationwide on a range of topics.

Palmetto Scholars Academy (PSA) is a South Carolina Public Charter School for gifted and talented students in the sixth- through eighth-grades opening in fall 2010. PSA will be open to students in any county or school district and will be tuition free. The school’s location in the tri-county area will be announced soon.
