Summerville Catholic School junior high students helped celebrate National Engineers’ Week by participating in the annual bridge competition held at The Citadel. The fair is held annually to expose Lowcountry middle and high school students to fundamental math and science principles vital to understanding engineering issues and methods. Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grade worked individually or in groups to create bridges out of popsicles sticks. Bridges received awards for best structural design, best architectural design, most original design, most constructible and best craftsmanship. SCS students took first place in each of these five categories. Twenty awards were presented to middle school students and SCS students captured 16 of these awards.
