Rollings Theatre Arts Core sweeps in their 1st state competition




Twenty theatre arts students from Rollings Middle School of the Arts traveled to Blythewood High School Saturday, April 19 to compete in the State Speech and Theatre Festival for Middle School Students.  The Festival consisted of eight schools competing in thirteen categories.  


This was the first year that Rollings has competed in the Festival, and the participants are excited about the presence they had in the competition.  


Rollings Theatre Core brought home fourteen trophies from twelve categories.  Seventh grader, Kathleen Crotty, placed first in public speaking, eighth grader, Melissa Rettig, placed first in both costume & make-up design, eighth grader, Esprit Oree placed first in poetry interpretation, eighth grader, Nick Holt, placed first in storytelling, seventh grader, Olivia Bolt, placed first in impromptu speaking, and eighth graders, Thomas Hart, Jessica Ford, Kirby Simmons, and Nick Holt, placed first in readers’ theatre.


Seventh graders, Hanna Hiel, Jessica Hagins, Jeremy Gray, Evan DeGrow and Matthew Kennedy placed 2nd in group acting, eighth graders Esprit Oree and Zania Cummings placed second in duet acting, sixth grader, Micaela Arnett placed second in solo acting and seventh grader, Olivia Bolt placed second for her self-composed monologue.   


The students also brought home two third place trophies. Sixth grader, Jeff Waters, placed third in solo acting and eighth grader, Mandy Nichols, placed third for public speaking.
