Fort Dorchester graduate Mike Sellers has been named to three different all-conference football teams.
Sellers, an offensive lineman for The Citadel who earlier received first-team all-conference honors from the Southern Conference coaches, is one of four Bulldogs named to this year’s SoCon Media All-Conference Team, which was released last week. Punter Cass Couey and defensive lineman Derek Douglas were named to the first team and Sellers and defensive lineman Chris Billingslea garnered second-team honors.
Sellers, who is just a sophomore, was also one of five Bulldogs named to the Southern Pigskin Steak' N Shake All-SoCon Team on Monday. Joining him on that team are Billingslea, Couey, Douglas and linebacker Rod Harland.
Sellers earned the starting nod at center in all 11 games for the Bulldogs this season. He was a key cog in a rushing offense that gained the most yards (3,153) since the 1992 team that finished with a program-high 4,348. Sellers opened the lanes for Bulldog teammates Ben Dupree and Darien Robinson to combine for four 100-yard rushing performances over the course of the season.
In high school, Sellers was himself a running back. As a sophomore, he rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns. As a junior, he totaled 871 yards and 12 touchdowns and he recorded 631 yards and seven touchdowns during his senior year.
The 2010 Fort Dorchester graduate was also a member of the Patriot basketball, wrestling and track and field teams. His achievements in high school include being named the most outstanding back, receiving all-region honors and placing second in the shot put at the state meet to help the Patriot track and field team earn a state championship.
