Patriot QB Ethan Long had another big night Friday when Fort Dorchester defeated Wando.

Receiver TJ Smith had a 20-yard touchdown reception and rushed for a TD Friday to lead Fort Dorchester to a 28-10 win over Wando.

It was the third straight victory for the Patriots, which improved their record to 7-3 with only one game remaining in the regular season. The Fort can clinch a share of the Region 8-AAAA title with a win over Ashley Ridge this week. Wando dropped to 5-5.

The Patriots outgained the Warriors 394 yards to 282 as they held the Wando rushing attack to 170 yards.

Fort quarterback Ethan Long completed 18 of 29 pass attempts for 194 yards and the TD to Smith while being picked off once. Rodney Gibbs made five receptions for 73 yards and Smith had five for 70 yards. Devron Glenn had seven catches for 36 yards.

Daitwan Commodore had 103 of the Patriots’ 200 rushing yards while Charles Loftland carried 12 times for 82 yards.

For the Fort defense, Bryce Tapscott, Delton Wells and Kevyn Flores all had an interception in the game. Ronald Palmer had nine tackles, including five unassisted, a sack and a tackle for a loss. Rashad Smith, Josh Lightburn and Tapscott were all in on seven tackles.

The Patriots got on the board first with a 2-yard TD run by Devron Glenn. Then the Fort increased the lead with Long’s TD pass to Smith.

Wando made a field goal in the second quarter, but the Fort added a scoring run from Loftland to take a 21-3 lead into the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, each team added a touchdown. Wando’s came on a 2-yard run while the Fort’s came on an 8-yard run by Smith.

Ryan Grainger had three of the Patriot extra-point attempts and Justin Cooper had the fourth.
