Community continues to rally behind Luke
The Lowcountry continues to support young Luke Shamblin in his fight against cancer.
Every since Luke was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia, his community has rallied behind his cause. Recently, two different groups are sponsoring campaigns to help boost the 9-year-old’s morale and help his family with medical costs.
The Summerville High School principal leadership program is encouraging everyone to wear an orange ribbon to Friday’s Summerville/Ashley Ridge football game to show their support for Luke and his battle. Ribbons are available at both schools and will be available at the game. Officials simply ask that anyone wanting one make whatever donation they can afford. All proceeds will benefit the Shamblin family.
Luke has played baseball for the Lowcountry Generals the past few seasons and that program has sponsored several projects to show their support for him. Now Robert Owens, who has ties to the Storm baseball program and Shamblin family, has organized a 12U/13U baseball tournament to benefit the family.
The Swing For 16 tournament will feature eight Lowcountry travel teams coming together to play for Luke at Felkel Field in Goose Creek Nov. 5-6. Several vendors have agreed to participate in the event in order to help the family.
Luke was also recently honored as a special guest at Fort Dorchester High School’s homecoming football game.
