Summerville’s season ended with a 56-20 loss to Byrnes. According to preps.goupstate.com, Rebel quarterback Shuler Bentley passed for 230 yards and four touchdowns and the Byrnes’ defense held Summerville to approximately 200 yards total offense as Byrnes improved to 11-2 on the season and advanced to the state semi-finals. Summerville finishes its season at 8-5.
The main highlight for the Green Wave was an 81-yard touchdown run by fullback Jerod Tucker. Summerville found the end zone one other time in the first half to enter the break down 35-14.
After that, things got worse for Summerville as Byrnes added 21 points in the third quarter.
The Wave didn’t score again until late in the fourth quarter when Nigel Frierson carried for a 4-yard touchdown run.
The Wave only attempted seven passes and completed only one.
Byrnes will face Blythewood Friday in the semi-finals. The winner of that game will face the winner of the Boiling Springs/Gaffney third-round game in the state championship.
