Q: I have a large sacral tarlov cyst and other about 10 other smaller tarlov cysts. Does a physician have the ability to treat these?

A: Tarlov cysts are common malformations that rarely require any surgical treatment.

They are simply enlargements of the tissue sleaves that cover the nerve roots.

They are filled with spinal fluid. Occasionally they can become symptomatic and require surgery.

The usual cause of associated back pain is disk degeneration, muscle strain, or arthritis. These can usually be treated medically
