A: Edema is more commonly known as swelling of the legs and caused by the collection of fluid in the lower legs.  The cause of such swelling is varied, ranging from simply being on ones’ feet too long to heart or lung conditions.  Management of edema is also varied, depending on its source, and ranges from simple elevation of the legs to medications prescribed by your doctor.  My best advice for anyone with edema or swelling of the legs would be to make an appointment with your doctor so he or she can better evaluate the cause of your edema and work with you for the best treatment plan for your specific case.
