Each cancer diagnosis affects many lives. Patients and those close to
them can trust Trident Cancer Center’s medical team to provide
excellent care and reliable support resources.
rident Cancer Center provides full-spectrum, comprehensive services
that are raising the bar for cancer care in our community. Accredited
by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons, our
program includes diagnosis, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, surgery,
in-hospital and outpatient care and additional medical services to
support the physical and emotional needs of those touched by this
disease. In addition, our participation in the national tumor registry
illustrates the value we place on meeting standards of care.
At Trident Cancer Center, a multidisciplinary group of physician
specialists consult about the most effective methods of cancer
treatment.
“Beyond providing radiation therapy, for example, radiation oncologists
work closely with medical oncologists who send patients to our infusion
suite to receive chemotherapy or blood products, as well as with others
on the team who supervise cancer treatment activities,” explains
William Collins, MD, radiation oncologist at Trident Cancer Center.
“Our efforts are directed toward specific goals established by our
cancer committee and involve consultations among tumor board members.
We are outcome-driven, meaning we employ the best proven practices to
help each patient in our care.”
Multidisciplinary Efforts
Weekly conferences take place at Trident Cancer Center involving
physicians from multiple disciplines who discuss challenging cases and
make treatment recommendations. Additional team members participate in
the cancer committee meetings—nurses, chaplains and music therapists,
just to name a few. Any healthcare professional with an interest in
cancer care is invited to attend.
“The aim of our meetings is to improve patient care,” says Margaret
MacDowell, MD, radiation oncologist at Trident Cancer Center. “Our
process is one of making continual improvements to take even better
care of our patients.”
