Trident Surgery Center honored with improvement award

July 31, 2008; Charleston, SC:  Trident Surgery Center received a certificate of achievement in recognition of their winning entry in the full implementation category of the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Innovation Challenge for medication reconciliation. IHI representative Diane Jacobsen, MPH, CPHQ, and Lorrie Gibbons, RN, BSN, CPHQ, director, Quality & Patient Safety for the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) presented Trident Surgery Center with this award on Thursday, July 24.

“We are very excited to receive this award; patient safety is our primary focus in this ambulatory surgery setting,” said Margaret Chappell, administrator, Trident Surgery Center and Trident Eye Surgery Center. “We make every effort to educate the patient on how to continue their medications following surgery.  It is a challenge we meet every day; there is no room for error in healthcare delivery.”

Trident Surgery Center is a multi-specialty freestanding outpatient ambulatory surgery center that provides services for surgeons specializing in burns, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, gynecological surgery, otolaryngology surgery, pain management, plastic surgery, and retinal surgery since 1993.  Trident Eye Surgery Center is a freestanding outpatient ambulatory surgery center specializing in cataract surgery since 1999.
