Summerville Medical honored for saving lives

September 30, 2008; Summerville, SC; Approximately 80 South Carolina hospital professionals recently received praise, inspiration and practical ideas for improved organ and tissue donation results during the LifePoint-hosted 2008 statewide collaborative meeting.

Summerville Medical Center was one out of four hospitals awarded an individual medal because three out of every four of their medically eligible organ donors in 2007 became donors.

We are motivated to give the best possible life saving care to our patients. However, when the disease or injury makes it impossible to save the patient’s life we know that the vast majority of Americans favor organ/tissue donation, so we offer eligible donor families that option with sensitivity and caring,” said Tom Glisson, director of pastoral care for Trident Health System.

“The award we have received acknowledges the hard work that the Trident Health System team continually achieves to maintain a high standard of quality in our organ/tissue donation program. But, the greatest reward we have is in knowing that through our efforts lives are saved and life quality is enhanced.”
