New Level II Nursery Opens at Summerville Medical Center
Summerville, S.C./ December 20, 2011 – On Monday, December 19th, Summerville Medical Center (SMC) held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of a state-of-the-art Level II nursery. The expansion project increased the nursery’s current size by 50% and adds a warm and welcoming space to comfortably care for infants, including a “quiet time” area for infants needing minimal stimulation.
The nursery’s advanced technology includes state-of-the-art cardiac monitoring with central monitoring stations, new warmers and an Accuvein © device that reduces the number of IV and blood draw sticks in neonates. The Level II nursery features noise-reducing ceilings that will contribute to a peaceful environment for babies.
“At Summerville Medical Center, our staff is committed to providing our patients with the most up-to-date technology and comfortable environment available. These enhancements will continue to make SMC the hospital of choice for the families of Dorchester County and surrounding communities” said Lou Caputo, CEO of Summerville Medical Center.
In 2010, SMC delivered 1,248 babies, their highest volume ever. Last August, SMC broke their single-month delivery record with 150 births. Summerville Medical Center is the only hospital located in Dorchester County.
