Coffee with the Congressman included Chief John Glenn Creel of the Edisto Natchez Kusso Tribe of South Carolina (ENKTSC) and Wassamasaw Tribe Chief Lisa Collins at The Shelter Kitchen and Bar in Mt. Pleasant.

Creel and Collins met privately with United States Rep. Nancy Mace to discuss the bill she has introduced to the 117th Congress to extend Federal Recognition to the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe of South Carolina, a state recognized Native American Indian Tribe.

While the pending House bill is now in committee, ENKTSC is also preparing a petition for Federal Recognition for the United States Department of Interior (DOI).

“We appreciated this opportunity to discuss the Federal acknowledgement process and are looking forward to a continued dialog with our senators as we move through the process,” Creel said.

Creel also discussed concerns about tribal conservation of land in and around local communities that are experiencing massive residential and commercial development.
