John Birch Society:

  • The John Birch Society is actively involved in legislative action in South Carolina. Tim Lowry Walking Tour:

  • Gather at the Timrod Library by 10 a.m. Saturday, April 20, for "Good Eats on the Sweet Tea Trail." Tim Lowry will guide walkers to a restaurant, candy store, sandwich shop and soda fountain. Guests will be invited to taste "a little of this and a little of that" while learning tidbits of Summerville history. Tickets are $25 ($20 for members) and are available at the Timrod Library. Space is limited.

Bands, Beats and BBQ:

  • Bands, Beats and BBQ, an evening of food and live music provided by the Ashley Ridge High School Band, is 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Ashley Ridge High School cafeteria, 9800 Delemar Highway in Summerville. All proceeds benefit the ARHS Bands and color guard. BBQ plates are provided by the ARHS AG program. The evening will include a 50/50 raffle and silent raffle for tons of great prizes. Meal tickets are required for the event. All pre-sale tickets will be available for pick up at the door on the day of the event. The fundraiser is presented by the Ashley Ridge High School Band Boosters. Tickets purchased online early are $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 3-10 and children under 3 are free. Happy Hearts:

  • The Bethany United Methodist Church Happy Hearts’ luncheon on Friday, April 26, features singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Jarvis. Jarvis believes music should be positive in influence and spiritually uplifting. He has released music as a solo artist and as a member of different singing groups; he is also a church band leader in Sumter. A lunch of lasagna, green beans, salad, garlic bread, assorted desserts and tea for $8 will be served at noon. Dolly’s Imagination Celebration:

  • Flowertown Players and the Timrod Library invite families to join "Dolly's Imagination Celebration" from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the James F. Dean Community Theatre, 133 S. The celebration will include children's crafts, story time with a character from the Flowertown Players' upcoming production of "9 to 5: The Musical" and a silent auction for a Dolly-themed gift basket to benefit the Timrod Library’s affiliate program for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Poetry Café:

  • The Summerville Catholic School’s inaugural golf tournament is Monday, May 13, at the Berkeley County Country Club in Moncks Corner. A Lowcountry BBQ lunch will be provided, and two drink tickets will be included. Putting, longest drive and closest-to-the-pin contests will occur throughout the day.   • Healthy Roots MD and Dorchester County Parks and Recreation are encouraging Summerville residents to take a step toward better health with "Walk with a Doc." This health program brings doctors and the community together to walk at 10 a.m. on the second Saturday of every month at Ashley River Park in Summerville, SC. Walk with a Doc is an international nonprofit organization that aims to inspire communities through movement and conversation.
