Summerville Police Department officers arrested a North Charleston man suspected of robbing a female U.S. Postal Service employee at gunpoint on June 8.

According to a department press release, police officers brought the suspect, 19-year-old Gregory Lamont Mack, into custody Wednesday, Aug. 2, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and without incident. Mack was held at the Dorchester County Detention Center prior to his bond hearing this past Thursday at Summerville Municipal Court.

According to an affidavit signed on June 30, a Ring doorbell camera posted at Lowcountry Orthodontics on Old Trolley Road picked up footage of a masked gunman holding the postal carrier at gun point at a location across the street. Mack is alleged to have demanded she give him the checks she had and when she could not produce any, he made off with her cellphone instead. Camera footage shows the suspect hiding something under a trashcan before running away, disposing of the jacket and ski mask he had been wearing in another trashcan as he went.

Officers later retrieved a Glock with an extended clip from beneath the can, and fingerprint samples taken from the receptacle came back from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) on July 27 with a positive match for the suspect.

Footage from the same doorbell camera the following day shows Mack lifting the can, supposedly in an attempt to retrieve the Glock. The suspect was further identified by facial features, build and a tattoo on his right forearm – all visible in the doorbell video recording. Earlier booking photos also confirmed Mack’s identity, as did the pinging of his cellphone near his mother’s address, which he had used as a home address during prior arrests.

According to Capt. Chris Hirsch with Summerville PD, Mack is being charged with armed robbery, pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and with wearing a full-face ski mask during the incident.
