Flowertown Players and the Timrod Library invite families to join "Dolly's Imagination Celebration" from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, April 27, at the James F. Dean Community Theatre, 133 S. Main St. in Summerville. The celebration will include children’s crafts, story time with a character from the Flowertown Players' upcoming production of “9 to 5: The Musical” and a silent auction for a Dolly-themed gift basket to benefit the Timrod Library’s affiliate program for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

“The production of 9 to 5 creates a perfect opportunity for a joint event with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library,” said Marcia Jonzcak, of the Timrod Board of Trustees. As chair of the Literacy Programs Committee on the Timrod board, Jonzcak coordinates the library’s affiliate program with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

The Imagination Library provides free age-appropriate books to registered children from birth to 5 years old. As a DPIL affiliate, the Timrod Library registers children in the Summerville area and raises the funds to cover the cost of shipping books to those children. Through this program, Timrod has helped put thousands of books in the hands of children in the community, Jonzcak said. Registration for DPIL is available at the Timrod Library and at the Imagination Celebration event.

“We hope families will come out for a fun afternoon and learn more about the Timrod and the Imagination Library while supporting our local theater,” said Jonzcak. “We’ll have registration available for the Imagination Library, and tickets will be available at the box office for ‘9 to 5.’”

The Dolly-themed basket will be on display at the Timrod Library during April. It will include an original painting by a local artist, a Dolly Parton book and musical album, a Dolly Parton baking kit, a book bag and other prizes. Bids for the basket will open at the James F. Dean Theater on Third Thursday, April 25, from 5-8 p.m. and will be open until the winning bid is announced on the opening night of “9 to 5: The Musical.”

Adapted from the popular movie 9 to 5, starring Dolly Parton, and featuring her famous hit song, this stage adaptation is the story of the friendship between three strong women who live out their dream of giving their egotistical boss the boot and turning their workplace into a celebration of the power of women.
