Summerville’s Charlie Neuner finished the regular season without a single loss.

Summerville won its final Region 7-AAAAA tennis match of the season, defeating Fort Dorchester 5-1 in North Charleston.

With the win over the Patriots April 18, the Green Wave wrapped up its region schedule as the region runner-up. Summerville received Singles wins from Lukash Klabink, Arlen Sumersett, Matthew Siwik and Charlie Neuner. The No. 2 Doubles team of William Smith and Daniel Epstein also won.

Eli Bartlett had the sole Patriots’ victory on the No. 5 Singles court.

The next day, Summerville played a match designed to help the team gear up for the playoffs. The Wave fell 4-2 to River Bluff.

A highlight of the match was Charlie Neuner winning the No. 4 Singles court 6-0, 6-0. With that victory, Neuner finishes the regular season undefeated.

“We’re all really proud of Charlie for the grit and determination he brings out to the courts each match,” Summerville coach Jesse Gladis said. “He isn’t the most technically sound player and doesn’t take private lessons like a lot of great players from the area do. … On the court, while driving his opponents crazy, he brings smiles to all the fans watching with his positive attitude and court banter.”

Summerville’s Evan Simmons also walked off the courts with a win. He endured through a tight No. 5 Singles match to claim a 6-4, 6-3 victory.

Summerville dropped to 14-6 on the season with the loss, but should be better prepared for its first playoff match. The Green Wave hosts Sumter April 23 at Doty Park for the first round. If Summerville advances it will either travel to the Region 4 Champion or host the No. 4 seed from Region 6 in the second round April 25.
