Dear Editor,
The H.F.-HELP Inc. animal shelter in Summerville has been blessed this past year by the goodwill and assistance of a fine group of Pinewood Prep students; we call “The Pinewood Movers and Shakers.”
Dear Editor,
L.C Knight worked 29 years with SLED moving up the Ranks to the rank of Captain. He has shown his commitment by staying with SLED for his entire career. He was not appointed the rank of Captain by a friend. He earned it.
Dear Editor
When U.S. citizens make contracts for goods, services, or other reasons, each party to the contract is expected to abide by it. However, there is one contract that seriously affects every citizen, but few pay attention to it. It is the U.S. Constitution, a contract between our citizens and the federal government.
Dear Editor,
As with most families, we have had a few “pest problems” in the past. Recently, my son heard scratching sounds in the ceiling over his room. I called Tony Abdon, from Nick’s Pest Control, who immediately found squirrels living in my attic! He encouraged them to relocate, permantely. Problem solved. Until this morning, when I found the door to my daughter’s hamster cage open. “Kid Rock” was missing! My mind was racing.... What if my daughter finds out before school? Can I replace him before she gets home? Then I thought about Tony. I’m not suggesting this is a job worthy of his time, but if there is a critter lose in your house, he will find it. So I called him. His response was, “I’ll be there in 10 minutes.” While I called local pet stores looking for a Panda Hamster, Tony was on his hands and knees with a flashlight. You’ll be amazed at the amount of dust that is under your furniture! At the other end of the house, Tony yells, “Come here girl and get our hamster.” There she was, inside a rug that was rolled up and stashed behind a couch. (That’s my idea of storage.) Technically a rodent, and a pest to Tony, the hamster is safely back in the cage. Thanks Tony! You saved me from having to explain to my children, how Kid Rock could be in the cage AND crawling out from under the couch at the same time.
Dear Editor
Anyone who has lived off of Dorchester Road for the last 40 – 50 years has seen many businesses thrive and then die. The area off of Dorchester Road and Ashley Phosphate is currently growing. It is gaining new businesses on a regular basis.
Dear Editor,
All these "Good Ole Boys" like to stick together, especially when it comes to running the "Political machine" in Dorchester County. They drop names to indicate that they are "Homegrown" fellows and that this is their turf. Last time I checked, birthplace didn't automatically instill public responsibility or guarantee extra IQ points. Taxpayers have the right to participate in the governmental process regardless of where they were born. Because you use my money,  I should have a say as to how it is spent. Please vote on June 10, 2008.
Dear Editor,
I've never written a letter to the editor before, but after attending last week's candidate forum at the Legend Oaks homeowners' meeting, I am going to give this my best shot as I feel compelled to share what I learned with fellow voters.
Dear Editor,
I may be naive, but I have long assumed that I could choose political candidates based on the party they affiliate themselves with. Since I don’t have the time, energy or desire to research every candidate, I most often take the easy way out and vote for candidates who align themselves with a party that has the same views as mine. Do I hear you saying, Duhhhhhh!!
Dear Editor,
Mention the Palmetto Achievement Challenge Test (PACT) and the response is unanimous. Administrators hate posting the nebulous results.  Students hate the drill.  Parents hate getting the letters home telling them to make sure their kids get a good breakfast on PACT days. Teachers hate spending so much time and energy on a test that gives them too little data too late to help their students.
Dear Editor,
This fuss about threatening deputies with job loss is not new.  Mr. Scott may have been the most recent reportedly to do so. He may have read the same front page article as many of us did in the Journal Scene of March 14, 2008. In the article Mr. L. C. Knight discusses the Sheriff’s Department and is quoted as saying: “I will sweep it clean..”
Dear Editor,
In response to Ms. Langley’s comment that her garbage collection fees were too high, because she wasn’t taking advantage of the recycling pickup - I say “shame on you.”
Dear Editor,
In the coming months, Low Country voters will go to the polls to vote for an individual they will count on to make changes in their lives.
Dear editor,
One year ago, a construction permit was issued for port expansion in Charleston.

Dear Editor,
You might think, as many do, that Goodwill Industries is simply a place to donate those blue jeans you can’t squeeze into any more or the books your children have outgrown. You figure it’s a worthy place to donate your gently used things so that others might be able to buy them at an affordable price – and you’re right. But, that doesn’t begin to scratch the surface of how Goodwill is changing lives here in the Lowcountry.
