Dear Editor,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people that have supported my attempt to continue to have the right to rent my private property during the Flowertown Festival. I am still trying to understand why the Town issued me a permit to rent to vendors for three years and because of the pressure received from the YMCA forced me to stop. Over the past three years I have had the privilege of hosting approximately sixty local businesses on my property. Many of them have told me that I was an answer to their prayers because I was willing to allow them the opportunity to promote their business to the thousands of people that attend the festival. Six fitness facilities rented spaces from me. I wonder if they will get a booth from the YMCA fitness facility? My homeowners insurance will not cover my home during the festival due to the thousands of people that have the chance to cut across my property. Do you think that the YMCA is willing to pay for the three-day policy I have to get to cover my home? $1200.00 just for my house! Other homeowners affected by the festival need to check with their insurance providers! Those of you that have done your homework understand how much TAX MONEY is given to supplement the expenses of the festival. All you have to do is Google it! I found $100,000.00 in just a few minutes and I think is was from the new hospitality tax. YMCA, Gary Lukridge told me that Time Warner Cable Company paid the YMCA $30,000.00 to be the exclusive cable booth in last year’s festival! I don’t know about you but for that kind of money I would have let “TWC” have my entire yard and the keys to my house for a week! My point for telling everyone this information is that I do not think that the money I make is hurting the YMCA. They do not have the extra forty-eight spaces I have to offer! Once the YMCA fills the 30 spaces they had available last year with permanent vendors...the festival will be the same year after year. If the Town Officials make me stop renting spaces...I will not be the only one that loses.

Guess what? I called my homeowners insurance agent, who in turn made calls to his buddies for A-L-L of the Major Insurance Carriers, INCLUDING the Independent Insurers, and the stuff about.... "You MUST have the $1,200/$1,000,000 worth of coverage 'special insurance' during the Festival because people MIGHT walk accross your yard"... It's NOT TRUE!! Nope, every single one of them said the same exact thing: "That's what your homeowner's policy is for. You would only get what is called 'special event insurance' when YOU are hosting the event." She's a Moron.... and a LIAR. The companies also said that she MIGHT have had to have it LAST YEAR when she had the booths IN HER YARD, but if she DOES NOT have them in her yard again she DOES NOT have to have it. Makes sense doesn't it? Almost 40 years of the Festival and nobody has had to get this extra-special insurance but HER???? Liar-Liar-Pants-On-Fire! SHAME on you.....once A-G-A-I-N. (How's that "C" looking now?)

But I think he is right. He just needs to work on his delivery.

You are rude and horrible and I hope I never find out who you are because that I would be ashamed to live in the same town as you.

The YMCA does not own the historic part of town so they should not have any say. Fundraiser or not, why should they make profit at her expense? It's her property. If I were Gina Britt, I'd turn on the sprinklers all weekend long. If I had to pay $2 or $1200 for special insurance, I'd expect them to pay it.

We did not care last month and we do not care now. Please quit saying the same thing over and over. This is a Fund Raiser for the YMCA. Please Feel Free to have The Britt Festival the following week and see how many people want to rent your booths! There is always "ONE" in every crowd and guess who that is? you are a parasite no better than a common dog tick. Speaking of ugly!

"GOD don't like ugly"....He also does not like people who ASSUME they are more religious than everyone else......Ok....you want to bring GOD into the discussion, lets:....It is a SIN for us to do anything that causes others to SIN......If anger, and mean comments are considered SINS, then Ms. Britts request is what has generated those comments, and therefore caused others to SIN.....GOD also said "render unto Caeser"...which means we are to follow the law, even if the law say's we cannot use our property for purposes that it does not allow......

Oh man....now I have done it...I made comments against using residential property for commerical purposes, and did not sign my name, so GOD is going to spill out his wrath on me.......great news for me though: GOD knows my heart, even though D. Morgan thinks they do......

My dear friend Gina, if you are reading these comments, please remember that God don't like ugly! My advice to you is to simply ignore the rude and hostile comments. Do these people really mean what they say when they are not even willing to sign their names? You have done nothing wrong and you know in your heart who you answer to! Your letters are published in the paper because you are not afraid to sign your name to your comments. Your trust in God allows you to know that he will always prootect you! Only God knows the real reasons the people are so angry. I will continue to pray for you and your family and wish you every blessing during the holiday season. Keep your head up and he will always send his blessings!

She must be one of all those southerners moving here that are causing all these problems....Thats right good old statistics of Channel 5 News reveals 8,401 of the 15,072 people that have moved here to Berkeley,Dorchester,Charleston have come from Southern states.3,704 from the Northeast,2,155 from the midwest and 812 from the west.

$1200 to cover people walking across her yard? I would like to see the proof of that one....My guess is the increase is because she rents out the yard and the insurance is for that. Not the fact that the festival is being held.....If she stops renting her yard....no insurance increase. betcha!
Posted by:
I'm just guessing but,Her yearly insurance should cover people crossing her yard all year. It might be an additional 1200 for the booths she rents to be insured.
Posted by:
Can the YMCA pay her insurance? I can understand getting earthquake, fire, etc. insurance, but to have to pony up $1200 for special insurance because there is a festival in front of your house and someone may walk on your property? Wow! It seems like this she's not asking much when you talk about $1200. I'm not a lawyer or tax accountant, but I'm guessing that $1200 is an out of pocket expense.
Posted by: They should pay her!
WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE IT A REST? How many times are you going to try quoting the same cr@p over and over and over again???? NOBODY CARES BUT YOU!!!!!!!! God you must be a miserable person to keep this up!!!!! No doubt, if someone has dared to stay married to you the entire town feels sorry for your husband!!!! He must come home and go straight to the garage with a six pack and 'yes dear, right away dear.' S-H-U-T U-P!!!!!

The arguement that Ms. Britt uses is the very reason that it should be denied...."you have let me do it the last 3 years, therefore I should be able to now".....she is using the establishment of a precedent as her reason ....that is the same arguement someone else could make when they wanted to use their property for "special use".....the town cannot let this precedent continue....who know's what next. Ms. Britt should see the danger in this herself, and withdraw her request.....someone could use this precedent to set up some commerical enterprise right next door or across the street, and people (including her) would have to live with it due to a precedent she established.........
Posted by:
If Ms. Britt can have a festival in her front yard it will start a precedent in which every home owner can have a festival in their front yard. What a joke! If I remember right, Ms. Britt had multiple garage sales in her front yard when she first moved in a few years ago. There is something rotten in Denmark here.

This is not a fight between the YMCA and Ms. Britt. It is the town trying to correct the mistake of granting the permits in the first place and preventing a precedent to be set for property owners to use residential properties for commerical purposes......

Most newspaper's will only print a letter to the editor from the same person about once a month. How many times is the SJS going to print one of MS. Britt,s letters? Oh wait, I know: until she wins! The SJS just wants to keep stiring the pot.

why not talk to Gary about leasing your space to the YMCA to cover the cost of your insurance then everybody wins.
