Dear Editor,
The DOT and the Dorchester County Transportation Authority have succeeded in re-inventing Parlor drive and Old Fort Drive.
Behind schedule and, I assume, way over budget by the many re-do’s that were done along the way. They have now created a larger parking lot for the Oakbrook schools and more access for developers to build new developments off of Old Fort Drive.
Residents of Old Fort Estates, Eagle Run and Heatherwoods subdivisions can not legally get by the traffic turning into the Oakbrook schools in the morning and afternoon because the turn lane is so short that traffic backs up in the travel lane past the dump and beyond.
Yes, we now have a nice center lane, but if you look at SC law, that is for turning only and not for travel. Tickets anyone?
What happened to the “Bike Lane” that was included in the plan?
When do we get the extension to Ladson Road off the idea stage and get construction going? Or are the monies that were earmarked for that project now gone away?
Residents of these three subdivisions need to demand answers to these questions and the number one is “ask why, with a new high dollar road, we are still being inconvenienced in the morning and afternoon by school traffic that the design of the new road should have allowed for”
