Dear Editor,
Once again South Carolina makes the national news shows. This time our star is Lieutenant Governor Andre Bauer, for his comments relative to the recipients of public aid. His comments are not worth repeating.
I have lived in South Carolina most of my life and I love this state and its people. I am embarrassed by the political leadership ad crude comments being made on a regular basis by those in seats of power. Individuals like Andre Bauer make me realize why I’m a progressive Democrat. In a state that has 57 percent of its students on free or reduced lunch our political leaders of both parties need to put their energy towards positive progressive legislation that will enhance the quality of life of all of our citizens and especially our children instead of spouting right wing propaganda.
When I go out of the state I feel I need to cover my license tag so I won’t be accused of being put into the same category as some of our state politicians. It’s time for the citizens of South Carolina to reevaluate who we choose to represent us and our state.
The so called compassionate conservatives need to practice the Gospel they so zealously espouse and do it unto the least of God’s children. Our citizens and state deserve better representation than we are receiving. The question is do we have the courage to change it?
