GOP Is Out Of Touch
Published Tuesday, November 10, 2009 12:10 PM

Dear Editor,

We may have witnessed a major turn in the country’s political leanings during this past Tuesday elections. Electing a Republican Governor in Virginia sent a message, but the message was stronger when a Republican Governor was elected in the almost always Democrat voting state of New Jersey. The GOP was quick to step forward to take the credit. However, if they truly believe they were the primary factor in these races they do so at their own peril. I believe the results were a clear demonstration of the GOP conservative base joining forces with the Tea Party and 9-12 groups to send the GOP as well as all politicians a message. The message to the GOP is to get back to the conservative principals this nation was founded on and we will support you. I share the opinion with many conservatives that the GOP leadership is out of touch with its members. All it will take to gain our support is a return to the party platform that promotes traditional Republican values of less government, lower taxes, individual liberty, property rights, etc.

I speak not as a far right radical. I am the elected representative from Berkeley County that serves on the State GOP Executive Committee. I am only stating what most conservative members of the party think. We are asking the State and National GOP leadership to return to the principles and ideology we represent or get out of the way and allow others to do it.

E. Mac McBride

State Executive Committeeman

Berkeley County

the GOP of the 00's (and 90's and 80's) have had the same pseudo-communist scheme - tax the poor, and give that tax money to the rich. That's what Reagan and both Bushes did, after all. (and just look at the facts, folks - they raise taxes on low income and lowered it on high income - we have the lowest tax on wealth of all nations, and are the only country to apply an income tax on poverty.) And to ensure the security of a country, that protects all of its citizen whether they be rich or poor, is NOT socialist. That's the rush limbos making that claim. What an American is to do is to make sure that no UN-American repuglican ever gets elected.

The GOP of the 00's has the philosophy of the Democrat Party of the 60's. The Democrat Party of the 00's have the philosophy of the Socialist party of the 50's. What is am American to do?

Why.....

Does it always have to be about "the party"??? Why do so very many people always have to vote "the party"? Can't people just think for themselves, gather facts, make decisions and vote for the BEST QUALIFIED person regardless of "the party".....???? It is always Them versus Us...if a member of either party comes up with an idea you know for sure the other party will be against it....works both ways..... people need to learn to think for themselves, make their own decisions based on what they know and not just the "facts" given to them by some talking head on TV or Radio.....

Republicans Will Fail
Sunday, November 15, 2009 4:07 PM

The Republican Party is the party of NO! It is a very minor political party these days. The more important election results were in upstate NY. There a "moderate" Republican was forced out of the race by the RIGHT WING fanatic Tea Baggers, thus giving the Democrats the victory. Now the news comes that both Senators Olympia Snow and Susan Collins of Maine are seriously considering changing to the Democratic Party. Why? Because the Republican Party has become the haven for nut cases and lunatics. Only lunatics like Jim DeMint and Joe Wilson and their ilk feel at home in the asylum. So welcome aboard to thise "moderate" republicans. We Democrats have a BIG TENT party. Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln, Barry Goldwater, Nelson Rockerfella and guys like my Dad would no longer recognize the GRAND OLD PARTY that has become the Right Wing, Pro-Facist (merger of state and coporate interests) Party of NO! Republicans will fail and become just a foot note in history like the Whigs and others. The democratic Party represents the future of America!

sc is independent?

Actually, its 44 % Democrat, 42 % Repuglican, and 14% independent. Yes, we all register to vote with no party affiliation, that's right, uh huh. But that doesn't mean that we're a state with dominant independent voter presence. 14% doesn't make a majority, you know. And that 14% is finally catching on to the lies that the repugs have been telling them for so long.

The Tea Party wil do to the GOP what Ross Perot did to them years ago. The Tea Party and GOP will divide conservatives and enable the Democratic party to thrive. Based on Tea Party growth, I predict Democrats will be in elected offices in greater numbers over the next 4 to 6 years. Thank you Tea Partiers...Keep partying

Berkeley County is a long way from NJ and Virginia. And Daniel Island is far removed from the mainstream. As a politician you should know that many things determine elections, and it ain't always some sort of mandate for your cause. NJ voted out Corzine because they DIDN'T LIKE HIM and didn't care about his party label. You keep thinking the Tea Party Wacko Mob is on your side and you'll be in for a big surprise soon. SC is no longer a GOP stronghold- it's independent.

are you overlooking that a democrat defeated an incumbent republican - in a dominantly republican part of New York that hasn't elected a Democrat to that seat in decades - on the same election day? Are you overlooking the fact that the "Tea Party" is now an actual political party, having filed all the paperwork, and issued statements of running against incumbent republicans? The republican party, which only represents about three percent of the population while lying to the other 97 percent, is falling apart. And it's long overdue, too.
