Dear Editor, Radio Talk Show host, Glenn Beck has attacked President Obama calling him a racist and a Communist; calling members of his administration radical communist revolutionaries and calling Americorps a secret police. Glenn Beck has gone so far as to say that President Obama has a secret plan to set up concentration camps for white people. Beck stated on national television that President Obama was a racist and hated white people. This is outrageous. It is amazing that this man has any following. We must fight Glenn Beck at the cash register. Urge everyone you know to boycott the sponsors of his hate speech radio show. Write and e-mail his sponsors that you will boycott them unless they pull their support for such vile speech. Patrick Labbe Lebsl Court Summerville

Joe Wilson said it best....Mr. President "You Lie" I am so glad that there are Opinion People like Glen Beck around to analyse what is going on today and break it down so the common people, who do not have his resources, can know the truth about what is going on with our politics and our money. Obama gave us change we can't believe in. Glen exposed ACORN, and oter people Obama surrounds his self with. Thank God for Glen Beck.

"retire young and generally collect much more than they put in".....true, but for the 20+ years they were in, they were pretty much on the job 24/7.....they did not work a 9 to 5 and go home at the end of the day......If something happened they were on call and required to respond....they had to spend extended time away from family, and in many cases had to put them selves in harms way....and they do not really "retire early"....they have to put in at lease 20 years before they could "retire"....granted, they are all volunteers, but it is not like they sit around doing nothing, and then start collecting a check every month.....at an early age.

Your comment about "sitting in the basement playing video games" is so very untrue and tasteless...you have no idea what you are talking about.....My son is 32 and handicapped, and collects SS...He holds down a job, but can only work 4 hours a day due to his handicap....so he collects SS to help pay his medical bills and expenses.....You ASSume that because someone is handicapped they are taking your money and are useless.....what about the disabled Vet who had his legs or arms blown off and now cannot work? And he did it so you can make your tasteless comments about the handicapped.....You ASSume you know what you are talking about, but have no clue.....I can promise you my son would GLADLY give you his SS check if he could have a "normal" body and a "normal" life........

It was a Republican Congress led by a wave of public sentiment from their huge mid-term election victory which forced Bill Clinton to sign the Republican's Welfare to Work bill. As far as SS, older people almost never get out more than they put in (when the money is correctly adjusted for inflation). Most people in the military are paid considerably less than government civilians (and the private sector), but compensated later by early retirement and other benefits. Assuming those who are injured or sick as a result of their military service don't make it to retirement age, the government actually makes money off them (not very nice). I agree with you when it comes to corporations and moving jobs abroad. You can thank Bill Clinton for NAFTA. Ross Perot is a shrewd businessman. He spent several million dollars on his campaign, splitting the Republican general election vote, guaranteeing Clinton's victory and passage of NAFTA, then promptly made BILLIONS by moving his company's jobs to Mexico under NAFTA...great return on investment thanks to gullible Americans who believed the little man. And the Democrats voted yesterday to remove a provision of the Obamacare bill which would have required those who participate in national healthcare to have a valid picture ID. Joe Wilson was right about illegals getting health care. Until the government gets out of the auto, banking, and healthcare industries and secures the US borders, the problem (and your tax bill) will only get worse. Stand up for what is right for America, not what is right for the corrupt and broken political parties.

Your view of poor people is misinformed and they're not to blame for the economy. The Democrats (those nasty liberals) instituted welfare to work under Clinton and removed many from the welfare rolls. Where else is there welfare? Older people on Social Security always get out more than they've ever put in. Many middle class people are on disability when they don't need to be.People in the military retire young and generally collect much more than they've put in. Corporations get massive assistance and tax breaks, and then move on to cheap wages abroad. That's a form of welfare too, right?

We are living in a country that rewards laziness, multiple fatherless children, criminal behavior, and unemployment. have you driven down Old Orangeburg Road lately? There they are, your tax dollars walking to the Bi Lo. By my last count there are at least 5 section 8 housing projects in that area. Try getting them off this free ride, good luck. and next time they use their EBT card just say "your welcome".

If you pay into SS for 25 years and get paid for 30 years before you die, you still lose money. One dollar today won't buy what it did 25 years ago when you invested it (with the government). Since the family unit is pretty much in shambles in the country, who's gonna take care of the elderly..not their family, so let the government do it. This isn't what's causing the Social Security system to lose money. The problem is the folks who go on social security disability at age 20 and stay in their mom's basement playing video games all day. Or better yet, the 18 year old with three kids by three different fathers who can't get around because she weighs 300 pounds. You know who I'm talking about, she's at the WalMart every day taking up a handicapped spot and tooling thru the store on her Lark scooter. These bums are bleeding the SS system dry and will do so for the rest of their lives. Hard working elderly folks deserve a return on their investment. The only way to fix the system is to ensure that you can only get out of SS what you pay in. But since our government is still giving tax refunds to people who don't pay taxes, I doubt anything will get fixed anytime soon.

" I cant blame someone for taking what is owed them".......yes we all pay into the Social Security system.....but.....If I retired at age 62 I would receive about $950 a month....if I waited until 65 around $1300 a month.....so unless I paid in that much each and every month I am in fact taking the money that someone else paid in.....in fact if I only paid into SS for 20-25 years, and then collected for 30 years I would be taking alot more than I paid in....the same works for income tax, we pay into the system and that money goes to pay for Govt expenses and other things the govt deems important enough....so anyone who is fussing about the USA becoming a Socialist country should not even think about collecting social security because that is a socialist program....or they can just be hyprocrites.
Posted by:
Hey "I Guess" if they gave me the option I would not pay into Social Security in the first place. Therefore you cant blame someone for taking something that is owed them.

The problem really is the conservatives come up with NO ideas! They have no alternate plan, they simply want to bash what's on the table.
Posted by:
All the people who are complaining about the socialism of America are going to stop collecting or refuse to collect their SOCIAL security when the time comes?????

Is the whole Liberal/Conservative, us verses them attitude.......It does not matter what it is, if a Liberal comes up with an idea, you can be sure the Conservatives will be against it, or if a Conservative comes up with an idea the Liberals will be against it....people have stopped thinking for themselves and just listen to the talking heads, and if they say it is a good thing or bad thing then so be it...that is the way it is.......the Liberals think every conservative is a lying and the Conservatives think the Liberals are lying....I personally am so tired of sterotyping by both sides.......people need to start thinking for themselves, do the research, and vote for the person best qualified for a job....not the party.....The "us" verses "them" attitude accomplishes nothing......

Look Obama is no worse that any other president we have ever had. All poiticians are liars and con men. If you dispute that then your crazy. Obama being in office merely allowed the congress to pass all these bills that they have been tabling for decades. On the other hand if you dont see socialism coming you are truly blind. And guess what both Republicans and Democrat Legislators want it. Thats the only way to control the 10% of people who want to make a stand.

Kenny- the difference is now the conservatives have deluded themselves into thinking their hate speech is somehow patriotic and anyone with differing views is a communist. It's odd to see these red, white, and blue folks joining ranks with delusional birthers, paramilitary gun groups, secessionists, and the like. Even scary.

I have seen and heard so much hate speech since the 1960s that I really don't want to listen to it anymore. Liberals started the trash, conservatives followed suit. Everybody is talking and no one is listening, especially Washington, D.C.! What was it the Bible said about being quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry? (James 1:19)

"facts are accurate".....no they are not, they are not facts at all...just Glen's Opinion...."read 1984"....."our rights are dwindling away".......OMG the sky is falling!

FIRST, BECK ACCUSED VAN JONES OF BEING EXACTLY WHAT HE IS WHICH PROMPTED HIS STEPPING DOWN.BECK'S FACTS ARE ACCURATE UNLIKE THE ARTICLE I JUST READ.YOU PEOPLE NEED TO PULL YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE SAND,BECAUSE IT IS SELF EVIDENT THAT OUR RIGHTS ARE DWINDELING AWAY. READ 1984,THEN LOOK AROUND!IM GLAD BECK HAS THE COURAGE TO SPEAK OUT!!

These so called entertainers incite violence, and I think they should be held responsible when their pinhead followers do something. It wasn't that long ago conservatives were denouncing the Dixie Chicks and anyone else who spoke against the sitting president who took us into a war based on LIES.

Concentration camps for white people? How idiotic-- who is going to pay for all his socialistic programs if they lock up half of the tax paying citizens? I am moderate conservative but Glen Beck is way out there for me to agree with most of the time.

Once upon a time there was a land where people were in a self-contained land. As long as they worked long hours for The Power they had their food, shelter, education for kids, and even their health care and recreation provided. Didn't have to worry about a thing. Of course, The Power took most of their income to provide these worthwhile services. Obama Land? Nope- South Carolina mill villages for years and years. Seems like many South Carolinians functioned under a communistic system and didn't even notice.

You're making an erroneous assumption that the banks gave these home loans to people who did not qualify. I don't see a lot of people defaulting on this new plan.I'm one of them and I pay on time every month so you can drop the implication we're all deadbeats, thank you. Since the bailout the banks are much more careful. But in the past several years you have been seeing solid, creditworthy people lose their homes because the economy is in a depression. The incentive plan was meant to boost construction, real estate, and banking interests, and improve the nation's morale. Obama has been President nine months and already Republicans are wishing out loud that he will fail.
Posted by:
I know of no "self-avowed communists or socialists" in the cabinet. I'm sure you understand that people like Rush and Beck and their ilk are political entertainers rather than serious journalists. They actually NEED a non-conservative like Obama to entertain their audience. It means money in their pockets. But they're intentionally fanning flames with lopsided views and half truths. The truth is, this President was forced to take some radical financial measures because to do nothing would automatically rank him with Herbert Hoover. Even George Bush knew he had to act, and started the socialism of American business. Republicans have no credibility on the economy.
Posted by:
Glenn Beck has pointed out that Obama's cabinet is filled with left-wing radicals, self-avowed communists, and socialists (progressives). If you have an issue with what Glenn Back is saying, debate him on the facts...you will probably lose. Case in point - Van Jones. When we stop giving folks $8k of our (the taxpayers) money to buy their new home, or $4.5k of our money to buy their new car, let's see where new home / car sales go. When the folks who bought these items (that they couldn't really afford) start defaulting on their new loans, let's see how much the banks will be paying back. Unemployment just hit a 26 year high in the U.S.. With China no longer able (or willing) to buy up our debt, the US government has now turned to taking loans from the Federal Reserve, issuing the Treasuries Bills to cover it, and then buying back their own Treasury Bills themselves. The house of cards is about to come crashing down around you. Set aside your political idealogy and let reality sink in.

You do realize he has been the President for less than 9 months right?......so much for giving someone a chance to turn things around..... Bet you did not know that some of the banks have paid their TARP funds back and the GOV has made 4 billion interest, or that Ford reported a sale increase of 17% last qtr, or that the sale of new home is the best it has been in years...... Now I am sure you can point out all the things that are still in a mess and need to be fix'd.....and there are still quite a few....but like I said...he has been in office less than 9 months..... I will reserve judgement for later date.

Someone who opens their mouth to speak what he believes is the truth, what many believe is the truth, and he loses a follower like you? Not a loss in my book. Obama is not the president he said he'd be, he is not the president I voted for and Glenn Beck has parked his car right on top of some of his biggest problems and there is immediate woe and horror he brings attention to it. He has a right to his opinion as much as you or I. I just happen to agree with him. Obama is a hoax and a pitiful excuse for a president. Too bad some of the rhetoric and entertainment is lost here.
Posted by: NOBAMA
Funny... I don't see anybody referring to Glen or Rush as journalists but you. However if someone speaks truth I don't care what they are...The truth is the truth. If the truth bothers you then say it, where is your outrage at someone who surrounds himself with people that say things like Van Jones or the likes?
Posted by:
I was not dis-agreeing with you...just adding to what you said.....Most people do not undersand that shows like Rush and Beck are ratings driven....the more listeners the higher the ratings.....It is the Job of the host to generate ratings....they will say pretty much whatever it takes to stir things up.....even if the "truth" has to be streatched, and outlandish opinions given....It happens in all talk radio/TV does not matter what "side".....They are no longer Journalist.......and I am at a loss as to why so many people swear by their statements as Gospel...Poeple have forgotten how to think for themselves and actually get facts....If Rush said it, it must be true!
Posted by: ROB
You failed to read what I said. Rush and Beck were never journalists- they're media masqueraders. And one is a pill-popping serial monogamist who touts solid family values. What a riot.
Posted by: Wide Awake Says Goodnight
A journalist should be just that: a Journalist, who reports the news.....period. The problem occurs when they become (to use your words) "political entertainer's".....that is the problem with guys like Rush and Beck...they stop being journalist and start trying to be entertainers.....instead of sticking to what they were trained to be: Journalist....reporting the facts.......that is why I stopped listening to them, If I wanted to be entertained I would watch Seinfeld.
Posted by: Rob
Another conspiracy! Journalists in the mainstream media do make a professional effort to give both sides of a story or else they couldn't stay in business. They just want to do their jobs and go home like the rest of us. Of course they have personal biases and they shine through at times but they're not hardcore ideologues trying to always prove an agenda. They're not perfect but they're the closest thing we've got to what we need. I never understand why people bash the media- they're representing the people (US!) and our interests to keep politicians honest. And politicians encourage public distrust of the media; it redirects attention away from their antics, right? My point is that many people listen to Rush and Beck and such and accept them as journalists. They are political entertainers and need to be recognized as such. They don't even merit boycotts.
Posted by: Go back to bed-It's late
And I suppose you believe NBC & CNBC are without any particular spin??? Wake up man or Woman!
Posted by:
People are confused between journalists/the media and commentators. Beck is not a journalist, his views reflect his particular political ideology. As such, he sees "fact" and puts his spin on them. That's not news.
Posted by:
I agree with most everything Glenn speaks about, from what I know of him, he is sure of his facts before he speaks, yes I know the truth hurts but sometimes that's the way it is. Besides it's more than we can say about the rest of the media these days.
Posted by:
Patrick is not squelching fre speech. He's condemning HATE speech. There is a not so subtle racism as an undercurrent in many conservative commentators.A Black man is in the White House and some people are having trouble dealing with the reality. But it's beginning to border on encouraging violence, with people showing up to health care town halls with weapons. The GOP is moving from wishing out loud that this President will fail to encouraging an act of violence. They need to be very careful. That's a grave responsibility they're taking on.
Posted by:
I like Beck. I don't agree with everything he says, but know he speaks the truth on more subjects than most in the media are willing to do. -- I'll make a special effort to support his sponsors, and will be sure I do NOT support any businesses that support the anti-free speech agenda Mr. Labbe is touting.
