The House Republican Caucus has a distinguished record of passing conservative legislation over the past 15 years. During that time, Rep. Annette Young worked overtime to promote reforms that matter to the people of Dorchester County. Rep. Annette Young provides the people of Dorchester a powerful voice in Columbia. She listens to the needs of her constituents and is a forceful advocate for Summerville and Dorchester County in the halls of the State House. In recent years, she has worked hard to approve lower income taxes, lower property taxes, and eliminate the grocery tax – all pieces of legislation that helped restrain government spending by returning money to the people who earned it. She has also served as a leading voice for streamlining our government and reducing inefficiencies by supporting measures to provide more accountability for the Department of Motor Vehicles, she chaired the committee to reform the Department of Transportation, and voted to give the governor direct control of more state agencies. She has also consistently supported constitutional amendments giving the voters the right to decide whether the governor should appoint many of our constitutional officers. This is just a small part of Rep. Young’s longstanding reform record. That is why I was surprised to hear some make claims that Mrs. Young fought against reforms in the Employment Security Commission (ESC) Restructuring bill, a bill in which I was the lead sponsor. Her objections were not to the reforms we were trying to bring, she only wanted to wait for the official Legislative Audit report of the Commission to make sure our reforms were targeted by implementing the reforms they recommended. I introduced and pushed for the ESC bill because I believe it needs to be controlled by our governor, the same way the Department of Commerce is controlled by the governor. I fully understand and respect the concerns Rep. Young raised and plan to work with her to implement positive reforms to the ESC next legislative session. Rep. Kenny Bingham S.C. House Majority Leader

It's time for Castle to just to start running, if you know what I mean! Lol! Castle is a joke and everyone in Summerville knows that.

Yeah, Keep Annette if you're happy with the way things are moving in Columbia. She is more interested in the political machinations of House politics than she is about the people of Dorchester County. Rudderless? Looks who's in charge. That gives me my answer. And where is Annette during the Sanford debacle? Curious silence. What's that about, Annette? Interesting there's a need to begin the campaign so early. I smell fear in the air.

Annette, like her or not, is our best politician and deal maker in at least 60 years. No one has achieved as much nor risen in the leadership on the House or Senate from this area. Her rist to power started with Carrol Campbell and David Beasly, she also helped Sanford on many issues, however, Sanford poked his finger in the eye of his supporters in Columbia one time too many. Now we are rudderless in Columbia. Best idea for us is to re-elect Young and keep somone in Dorchester County up there with more than 2 years experience (and seniority). We can get rid of Young if we think she is not helping, but a close look at her voting record shows strong conservative votes and ability to move and sway majority votes in the house of rep. No one else we send up could do that for at least another 10-20 years of service. And for little pay at that. Keep Annette, a good business decision!

no one has yet to argue with ryan's statements only criticize him as a person. he's a smart guy who is giving the rose/feltner crowd all they can handle and more and they hate him for it.
Posted by:
all this talk about ryan is just bunk. i heard just last week he moved out of dist. 98. this is just the normal political nonsense talking as many are putting that out there because they are scared of him.
Posted by:
I don't think Jamie even likes Ryan. I doubt he would support him, even against Young.
Posted by:
I'm sure the draft Ryan movement is being started by Jamie Feltner.

Is Ryan starting his own Draft Ryan movement?

It's time for Ryan Castle to run for the HOUSE!

I can count on one hand the elected officials who try to actually represent the average citizen. Young hasn't done anything good for her district. She capped impact fees. She did not support annexation reform. She voted for the tax shift to support the wealthy. She doesn't bring funding for roads like she promised. She wasted a 2 billion dollar surplus. What has she done for her district?

Annette! Never too busy to blow your own horn regardless of how of tune it is!! RINO!
Posted by: Not Buying It!!
Young has fought against tax increases while also voting to override Sanford along with the rest of the state leglisators by over a 2/3 majority. If you think Sanford's vetos are good for our state, please buy some swamp land in Florida because his vetoes are crafted to make him look good and be popular, not in the best interests of this state.

The legislature promised - There would be transparency. There would be tax reform. There would be spending caps. There would be government restructuring. There would be election reform. -- to blame the Governor when his vetoes have been overturmed routinely is just more of the same from you --err-Annete!

Now we are listening to them promote one another. Where are the Democrats? It's time for change. If she has been there 15 years and we are in this mess, what has she really done for us?
Posted by: Where's a Democrat to run against her?
All lip service from the GOP- they've been in power a long time now, and see what we've got coming out of Columbia. So much for fiscal responsibility. Annette must be a little concerned since she's calling in the big guns to write letters this far in advance of the election. She has become a powerful leader but is too involved with the machinations of the GOP in the House to remember the folks back home. Start saying goodbye, Annette. You've been there much too long. At least too long for our own good.

Good letter by the Majority leader. There is a concern by some that reform hasn't been strong enough. Given the Governor's agenda, no one will ever be happy until its 100% done. But Rep. Young and others have led the way the past fifteen years. Mark Sanford has gotten in his own way and with a new Governor in 2011, reform can and will happen. I hope we still have Ms. Young in office to make sure we get it done. Politics has and always will be the art of Compromise. Many do not accept this.

Bingham stumping for Young!! Mr. Bingham you promised us: There would be transparency. There would be tax reform. There would be spending caps. There would be government restructuring. There would be election reform. As House Majority Leader how do you think your performance should be rated on reaching these goals in a reported "Republican majority" in the SC House? You failed your constituents like Young does hers!
