Volunteers essential hospital personnel

To Editor:

I was reading with interest the article that Jim Tatum wrote, “A few minutes with Louis Caputo” the CEO of Summerville Medical Center.

His vision and goals for the coming years. The longevity of many of his employees and their pride in what they do and how it is managed.

The patient censuses have been growing. With the continued pride of their workforce at SMC. It should continue.

One aspect of the hospital’s “assets” was overlooked.

Being a volunteer for 20 years to the hospital and Trident Hospital I always prided to the fact that volunteers were considered part of the workforce and as important. They are dedicated folks that do it from their hearts. With 130 + volunteers at SMC it would have been nice to mention them in that article.
