Locals hold "Benefit/Appreciation Comedy Show" for Joe Meli

  • Thursday, August 23, 2012

A Joe Meli appreciation night/comedy show will be held on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at the Hippodrome, 380 Concord Street, Charleston (Next to the former IMAX Theatre).  Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show starts at 8:00 pm.  After party to follow.
Meli was the majority owner of Desperado and The Plex, two multiple entertainment venues located in North Charleston from 1993 to 2008. Both of these facilities employed over 1000 people during their 15 years of operation and hosted close to 500 concerts and special events.  This event is being produced to recognize Joe Meli's contributions to the Lowcountry hospitality and entertainment scene.
Meli has battled numerous health issues over the past several years. All proceeds from the show will be donated to the family to help with medical expenses.
The comedy show will feature national acts Jerry Farber, Shaun Jones, Just June, Brian Shirley and Dave Ugly.  Tickets are $20 and available at the Hippodrome, Dog and Duck locations (in Mt Pleasant), Noisy Oyster (North Charleston and downtown), and the Firewater Grille in Summerville. Tickets are cash or check only.
For information about the "Benefit/Comedy Show" or to buy tickets, call Bob Shipley at (843) 532-8695 or the Hippodrome at (843) 724-9132.
