A lone suspect robbed a Subway restaurant Sunday evening, getting away with some $219 cash.
According to a Summerville Police Department incident report, the robbery happened around 7 p.m. Sunday when a lone subject dressed in black clothing, including gloves, ski mask and sunglasses, entered the Subway on Dorchester Road in Summerville and demanded money. Two employees working in the store said the subject did not show a weapon, but did tell them not to “make me pull this out,” and held his hand near a bulge along his waistband. He then demanded they open the safe.
The employees told him they couldn’t open the safe, so he said, “Ring me up for a sub or something,” then took cash out of the register when the cash drawer opened. He then fled the store on foot toward a nearby wooded area.
No one was injured in the incident.
The subject is described as a black male about 6 feet all with a very thin build. One of the employees described the subject’s ski mask as having one opening around the eyes as opposed to two slits; the employee also remarked that the subject was wearing Gucci brand sunglasses because he noticed the “G” on the side of the frames. In addition, the employee noted that the gloves appeared to be made of thicker material, such as used for work gloves.
A K-9 unit ran a track from the front door to the rear of the building, then west to the rear of an adjacent building, where it ended. Officers believe the subject probably had a vehicle parked there to make his escape.
