A fire Dec. 30 severely damaged a home and temporarily displaced a family of seven.
The fire occurred about 2:30 a.m. at a residence on Poppy Place in the Robynwyn subdivision of Summerville, according to Summerville Fire Department officials.
The fire apparently started in the kitchen and spread, damaging two rooms and causing extensive smoke damage, SFD Chief Richard Waring said. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control in about fifteen minutes, he said.
American Red Cross volunteers responded to the scene, providing the family with temporary housing, funds to help replace the food lost in the fire as well as comfort kits and referrals to Red Cross partner agencies.
SFD also assisted Pine Ridge Fire Department with a structure fire on White Boulevard Dec. 31, Waring said. The building was damaged but no one was present at the time.
No one was injured in either blaze. Both fires are under investigation.
