A fire Sunday afternoon at a home on Terry Drive in the Greenhurst Subdivision of Summerville temporarily displaced a family of six.

No one was injured in the incident, but the fire caused enough damage to the home to require that the family go into temporary lodging, according to Red Cross officials.

Red Cross volunteers arrived on the scene to assist the family of five adults and one child. The family was provided temporary shelter in a nearby hotel, financial assistance to help replace the food, and clothing that was damaged in the fire and comfort kits filled with personal hygiene supplies.

The Red Cross has assisted 190 individuals needing aid due to disasters, such as home fires, in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties since January 1, 2011. Members of the community can support local victims of disasters similar to this and enable the Red Cross to assist families like this who are impacted by residential fires by contacting the American Red Cross at 843-764-2323 ext. 368 or by going to www.LowcountryRedCross.org.
