Elizabeth Murray Hight grew up in Summerville, and returned to her hometown to start a law practice. She has a wide range of interests, from her pets to gardening to salsa dancing, in addition to practicing law.

Elizabeth has 2 dogs, a cat and 4 chickens. She grows her own food, and processes it herself, before creating gourmet meals for her husband, David, to enjoy. She holds both a master’s degree in city planning and a law degree, completing both in only four years. She serves on the Dorchester Habitat for Humanity board and is a foster “parent” for Wild Heir Labrador Rescue.

“When I was a child, my great grandmother Cora Mitchum would tell us stories about being born on a cotton sharecropping farm in rural South Carolina,” Hight said. “The stories of hardship, love and making do remind me how much harder life can be.”

Her husband’s grandfather had Alzheimer’s disease. While Elizabeth never met him, she saw how hard it was on the family. “It is like you lose the one you love before they are actually gone.”

Summerville attorney Elizabeth Murray Hight and partner Josh Ortiz of Carolina Dancesport enjoy their practice in preparation for Dancing With The ARK’s Stars. The fundraiser will benefit The ARK, Alzheimer’s Family Support Services. Scheduled for March 10 at Pinewood Prep School, Dancing With The ARK’s Stars pairs local celebrities with professional dancers from Carolina Dancesport. They will compete to win the “Mirror Ball” trophy while raising money to continue TheARK’s vital services to the community. For more information, visit www.TheARKofSC.org or call 832-2357.
